our client’s challenge

From website claim to real accountability

The client claimed to have a Code of Conduct on their website, but in reality, no formal document existed. That gap left them vulnerable to scrutiny from stakeholders and potential regulatory breaches.

The brand’s product category brought specific challenges: heavy reliance on synthetic fibres, niche questions around animal-derived materials like down and feathers, and performance-driven design requirements.

They wanted to increase the use of recycled synthetics, but not at the expense of technical performance, and needed a Code of Conduct that could realistically reflect this balance.

They also had wider ambitions, such as eventually applying for B Corp certification. We included foundational language on issues like biodiversity and ecosystem impact to support their long-term direction.

how we helped

A code built for performance, accountability, and the future

We developed a custom Code of Conduct from scratch, grounded in international frameworks but shaped by the specific realities of the sportswear category.

We guided the brand through unfamiliar standards like Bluesign and the General Product Safety Regulation, helping them understand what applies at the factory level, including environmental, worker, and chemical safety criteria.

Together, we navigated complex trade-offs, such as preferring recycled synthetics while preserving product performance.

what our client gained

Performance and responsibility can co-exist

Deeper than just materials

Trust built through detail

In sportswear, sustainability demands can clash with technical requirements. Our approach ensured the Code of Conduct supported innovation in recycled synthetics, without compromising the brand’s performance standards or product integrity.

We helped the client look beyond fibre-level questions and into wider responsibilities, from water conservation and chemical management to biodiversity and ecosystem health. This broader perspective prepares them not just for supplier engagement, but also for future milestones like B Corp.

Early in the process, we aligned on tone and depth, striking the right balance between aspirational and what was realistic. The client valued our precision and broad knowledge, describing the work as deeply thoughtful and highly trustworthy.

the impact

A code that reflects who they are, and where they’re going

The client now has a comprehensive Code of Conduct that supports supplier conversations and reduces legal risk, all while reinforcing their brand’s identity as a performance-driven yet responsibility-minded business.
