Polyamide is a term encompassing various synthetic fibres made from long chains of polyamide monomers. The best-known polyamide fabric is nylon, though several other types exist.
These fibres are derived from carbon-based molecules and are entirely man-made. Polyamide is not biodegradable and, as a plastic material, it can release microplastics during wear and washing.
