Good Wool Collective

Stronger Together.

Join a community of brands invested in better wool.

For two years, Good Wool Collective has been connecting member brands to a global network of experts with the purpose of improving wool for all.

The Collective has dived deep into carbon emissions, animal welfare, wool treatments, what regenerative practices can do for land and brand, and more.

In 2027 we move beyond sheep’s wool, and expand into the world of animal fibres. Widely requested by member brands, 2027’s programme will cover cashmere, alpaca, mohair, Angora, camel and yak, in a format that suits the demands of busy working teams.

If your brand already sources these fibres, we will find ways for you to source better; if it does not yet, we will help you uncover their potential.

What our members say

Being part of a group of other dedicated wool brands gives us the tools to make better environmental and social decisions for our wool products. If you are working with wool, I would highly recommend joining the Good Wool Collective.

For the first time, we have access to practical guidance that helps us make real improvements on the ground while also supporting us in understanding and applying LCA methodologies.
Tove PalmSustainability Manager, Rugvista
The collaborative approach is inspiring, and the community brings together experts I wouldn’t normally have access to in my daily work.

Beyond the sheep’s back

Other animal fibres raise the same questions wool does: where they come from, how the animals and the land are treated, what a claim may say. In 2027 we take the Collective’s proven format and apply it to cashmere, alpaca, mohair, Angora, camel and yak.

Source better, together.

Good Wool Collective members enjoy access not only to the experts in Bergstrand’s network but also to each other’s knowledge. Learn from a peer who has been there before, and share your learnings with others.

Direct access to a global wool network.

Good Wool Collective has amassed a network of wool growers and processors, weavers, knitters, dyers, researchers and other experts from around the world who are ready to assist in transitioning your brand to good wool that is cost-effective and better for the planet, as well as reducing your brand’s climate impact through wool.

Designed for busy teams.

The Collective’s format is built to make the most of a team’s time. Each session is about an hour and a half and turns a complex topic into actionable points. A written summary follows every session, ready to share. Every session is recorded, and the recordings, summaries and tools live here in the Member Area.

Important topics, explored and worked on.

Good Wool Collective meets every two months. These are the topics for 2027.

  • January · SeminarCashmere 101Cashmere is widely valued for its warmth and lightness. Subtle variations in micron counts and staple lengths create noticeable differences in how garments wear, pill, and age over time. This session seeks to understand cashmere, the challenges associated with it, and options to source it better.
  • March · SeminarCashmere: what’s the alternative?Recycled cashmere is the lower-impact alternative to virgin fibre, with trade-offs in softness, strength and shedding. We provide insights on where recycled cashmere excels, what the limits are, and how processing choices shape the finished product.
  • May · WorkshopThe alternative downs: yak, llama and camelWe dive into the benefits of sourcing these lesser-known fibres. Focusing on performance, processing and long-term viability, we also consider how to ensure the fibres are sourced with care for the animal, environment and communities.
  • July · SeminarAlpaca: high-altitude warmth and low-impact sourcingLight, warm and low in lanolin, alpaca is gentle on mountain soils, but a growing supply needs care for animals and pasture. We look into the fibre’s technical merits and the standards taking shape for responsible sourcing.
  • October · WorkshopMohair: the “diamond fibre”Mohair promises lustre, resilience and ease of care, but what exactly are the properties of mohair, and the considerations a brand must take into account when sourcing it?
  • December · WorkshopIndigenous communities in luxury fibreRare fibres depend on ancestral herding and community-led land management. We explore how fair-trade models and community stewardship protect livelihoods, ecosystems and the long-term supply of the fibre, and what it means for brands and their reporting.
